Programme Details

Structure and Duration
The programme may be taken in one year (full-time) or over two or three years (part-time). The programme is convened on an inter-disciplinary basis, and teaching is through lectures, seminars and workshops conducted by SOAS faculty and visiting specialists and practitioners.

The programme is an important interdisciplinary development that focuses on a core aspect of globalization from a new perspective: It creates a forum for the teaching and learning of both theoretical and practical aspects of the evolution of multinational enterprises in shaping contemporary global politics, international production patterns and regulatory frameworks

The MA consists of a dedicated applied core course, a dedicated theory course an additional full unit course to be chosen from the MA ISD courses (except for General Diplomatic Studies and Practice) or an elective and a dissertation on a topic related to the programme's core themes. We also expect the existing profile of elective course from a wide range SOAS departments and faculties to be available for this programme.

Each course normally requires attendance at SOAS for two or three hours one evening per week during SOAS terms, with breaks at Christmas and Easter. Additional seminars and one-day events may be scheduled.

Elective courses chosen from MA 'Area Studies' (please refer to Programme Content and Application Procedure for further information) do not normally take place in the evenings. Please note therefore that if you are working full-time you may not be able to take an elective course as part of your programme of study.

Studying Languages at SOAS

You may choose language options from the approved list of MA programmes offered as electives (see above), however, you are not permitted to take language courses offered by the SOAS Language Centre as electives. If you wish to study a language with the Language Centre, you must contact them directly and pay the additional fee.

As with all teaching at the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy, we extend teaching opportunities to students in full-time employment. Core lectures take place in the evenings, between the hours of 18.00 and 19.00, with a range of associated seminar slots running in some cases from as early as 14.00 through to 20.00.

If you are interested in a diplomatic or international career and are seeking a professionally relevant postgraduate programme, we hope what we offer will be of value.

We look forward to welcoming you to the SOAS international community in the near future.
